John Youngberg
Director
Mr. John Youngberg is Associate Professor at Southern Adventist University’s Technology Department, teaching most of the core requirement courses for the Construction Management Associate of Technology (AT) degree.
While in college, he postponed his senior year to be the construction manager building 160 houses for victims of Hurricane David, which destroyed much of the southern end of Dominican Republic. In 1982 he was the recipient of Andrews University’s “Outstanding Service Award”. He graduated with a Bachelor of Industrial Technology degree from Andrews University in 1983. While still in his senior year he was hired as the first paid project manager of Maranatha Flights International (now known as Maranatha Volunteers International), he also became their Executive Secretary. After leaving Maranatha he worked as a commercial superintendant for Hensel Associates, building retirement centers and nursing homes. Mr. Youngberg has owned his own remodeling company and knows what it is like to make payrolls as well as satisfy clients. In 1990 he received a M.Ed. from Wright State University and also received a Bachelor of Art in Spanish. He was inducted to the Spanish Honor Society “Sigma Delta Pi” at that time.
His maternal grandfather was superintendent of construction for Metro-Goldwin Mayer (MGM) movie studios. He is the son of missionary parents and spent the first 11 years of his life in South America living in Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, and Bolivia. He has run dozens of mission trips, a habit he plans to continue every spring break with his students. He and his wife Ivette were missionaries in Micronesia where he was the principal (and re-builder) of Guam Adventist Academy for 7 years. No matter what the job is, there is always something to repair or re-build.
His office phone number is (423)236-2567 and his email is youngbergj@southern.edu.
He has a passion for helping orphans grow to fill leadership positions in society and their church.
