Dr. Sharon Aka
Director
Sharon Aka says that education is in her DNA. Sharon holds Bachelor of Science Degrees from Andrews University, and D’Youville College, and a Masters of Science in Nursing from D’Youville College.
Sharon spent the first part of her career as an Acute Surgical Unit RN and Surgical Nurse Educator at The Scarborough Hospital in Toronto, Ontario, supporting nursing staff from 8 different surgical units on 2 hospital campuses.

The second portion of her career was in Post Secondary Education in Toronto. Sharon taught Nursing for three years at Centennial College in both the PN and BN collaborative Ryerson University/George Brown College/Centennial College programs, and then transitioned to a Professor position at Humber Institute of Technology & Advanced Learning where she taught in both PN and BN collaborative University of New Brunswick/Humber College programs. During her tenure at Humber College, Sharon worked half time in the Centre for Teaching & Learning as a Professional Development Specialist supporting faculty in the scholarship of teaching and learning.

In late 2014 Sharon accepted a position with the North American Division of Seventh-day Adventists as Associate Director of Education for the Adventist Learning Community (ALC). She brings a wealth of expertise in Distance Education and Professional Development. The ALC provides a collaborative virtual platform specifically designed to deliver excellence in Continuing Education content for Adventist professionals and local church leadership.
Sharon is currently a PhD student at Andrews University. She is married to Timothy Aka, MBA, CFA, Associate Treasurer for Investments – General Conference of Seventh-day Adventist. They have three grown children: Maxwell – Professional Musician and MDiv student at Andrews University Seminary, Danielle – Registered Nurse at Kettering Health Network, & Rachel – Media Intern at Hope TV Japan (2017-2018).
